Growing Up.

It was my little cousin Melly's 18th birthday today.

This is a drawing of mine of Melly (on the left) and her sister.

I grew up with Melly and even lived with her for a while when we were kids, and she's always been like a sister to me.
We've talked about boys, about our fears, our futures, school ;everything, and been the best of friends to each other.
Of course, sometimes we hated each other, and we've had some pretty explosive fights (one of which ended with her punching me in the nose) but nothing has ever separated us for very long.

Tonight, as we sat beside each other at her birthday dinner, her boyfriend on her other side, and a glass of alcohol in each of our hands, I realised how much we've both grown up since we were tiny little five year olds, arguing over who got to use the blue paint first.
And I was sad.
I can't really explain it; my mind keeps telling me this is something to be so happy about.
We're growing up, and new doors are opening to us, and that's an amazing thing!
But I feel like something is ending... like we're losing the little girl's we used to be and becoming completely different people. Adults.
Of course, we're still best friends, and I hope we always will be, but it's very hard feeling like I'm saying goodbye to someone I've loved so much.

I can't even imagine how hard this must be for our parents.

Anyway, I love you my Mellybum.
Happy Birthday. xxx

Running

I dream of running.
I long to be free of here and now; to just keep moving until there's no air left in my lungs, and no fear in my mind.
I wish I could break free of my restraints; ropes and chains that were built of love, but hold me down like hateful fire.
I want to run so far that the whole world forgets who I am, and not stop moving until the deceitful heart in my chest has ceased its false beating.
I'll run beyond all the lies, run until all the colours I no longer see bleed into an empty backdrop of life gone by.
There'll be nobody to keep me from moving, no pain to keep me from stretching my limbs 'til they snap.
The guilt, the anguish, and the regret will all be left behind, and I'll be nothing more than a spirit, moving across the land faster than the soaring eagle.
I'll run through forests, over mountains and across oceans, searching for nothing but the empty relief of death.
I'll never stop, and never return to this place I'll have long forgotten.
This place where I sit and I dream.
I dream of running...
